The Thomson tartans date from more recent times and were designed specifically for Lord Thomson of Fleet and passed to Lord Lyon, who had them officially registered in the Scottish Register of Tartans in 1958. Unlike a well-known fashion house's version, the Camel Thomson has two fine black lines replaced by blue ones.

Merino wool is a special type of wool that comes from merino sheep. This breed is known for its fine and exceptionally soft wool, which differs from the wool of other sheep breeds. Merino sheep were originally bred in Spain, but are nowadays also kept in countries such as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, which are among the largest producers of merino wool.
